About this race

Run the Bridges 10k is a chip-timed road race held each September in the twin towns of Ballina and Killaloe on the shores of Lough Derg in east Co. Clare. The course crosses the bridges that connect Ballina in Tipperary with Killaloe in Clare, running along the banks of the River Shannon before looping through the surrounding roads. The tarmac route is largely flat and fast, with the scenic riverside setting providing a striking backdrop throughout. The event is a fundraiser for Ballina National School and regularly attracts over 350 finishers. All 10k finishers receive a commemorative medal. The race is the third event in the annual Run Clare series and is part of the broader 5k to 10-mile challenge format.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
