About this race
The Regent Flooring Run the Runways 5k is hosted by Scrabo Striders and takes place on the runways of Newtownards Airport in County Down. The course is a single lap of the airport's three runways, offering a uniquely flat and fast circuit in a one-of-a-kind setting. The route is fully tarmac and officially measured by Athletics NI, with chip timing provided by ChampionChip Ireland. A Kids 2k race precedes the main events. The course is exceptionally flat and exposed, with no significant hills, making it ideal for those targeting personal bests. The event forms part of a popular local race series. Parking and spectator access are available at the airport and medals are awarded to all finishers.

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
