About this race
The Moycarkey Coolcroo AC 5k Road Race is an annual Athletics Ireland permitted event held in the village of Littleton, just off the M8 motorway near Thurles in Co. Tipperary. The course starts approximately 1.5km north-east of Littleton on the old N8 Cork to Dublin road, a wide and quiet stretch since the motorway opened, before looping back into and finishing in the village. The route is flat with minimal elevation gain, making it one of the fastest 5k courses in Munster and popular with runners targeting personal bests. Race HQ is at Littleton Community Centre. The event is chip timed and runs from 7:30pm. Organised by Moycarkey Coolcroo AC, the race is part of the club's fundraising efforts towards the development of a new athletics track, and draws strong fields from across Munster and Leinster.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
