About this race

The Cork BHAA Sterling 5k is one of the longest-running races on the Cork BHAA calendar, held in Ringaskiddy since 1998. The course follows the traditional Sterling circuit: a single flat loop of the tarmac roads through the Ringaskiddy industrial estate on Cork Harbour's south shore. The route is fast and consistently well-marshalled, making it a reliable course for competitive racing. Registration is at the Ringaskiddy venue from 6:30pm. The sponsoring company has changed over the decades but the course and format have remained a constant.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
