About this race
The Coralstown Kinnegad Athletic Club 5k, also known locally as the Kinnegad 5k, is organised by Coralstown-Kinnegad GAA and Athletic Club and takes place on a Wednesday evening in July in the town of Kinnegad, County Westmeath. The race starts and finishes on the main street in the town centre and follows a looped course through the roads on the west side of Kinnegad. The route is on tarmac throughout and has built a reputation as a fast, well organised summer evening race. Kinnegad sits at a crossroads location in east Westmeath, close to the Dublin to Galway and Dublin to Sligo routes. The event regularly attracts a strong turnout from clubs across the midlands, including Mullingar Harriers and visiting clubs from neighbouring counties.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
