About this race
The Ballyneale 5k begins near the local primary school and concludes at the community sports field, offering a scenic and high-speed tour of this historic Tipperary village. This engaging course guides participants through a complete circuit of the village, following a route that passes the old ruined church and local graveyard. Runners navigate narrow, quiet country roads that provide a tranquil backdrop as they loop past the parish church and back toward the village centre. The terrain is run entirely on permanent road surfaces, ensuring a smooth and reliable footing for athletes of all abilities. Renowned as one of the fastest 5k courses in the region, the route is predominantly flat and fast, with only minor undulations to challenge your pace.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
