About this race
The Naomh Mhuire AC 5k (Ambrose Hickey Memorial) begins and ends on the vibrant Main Street of Daingean, serving as the central hub for this popular community event. The looped route initially leads participants through the town’s thoroughfares, passing the historic Daingean Town Hall before heading toward the outskirts near Tullamore. At the midpoint, the course transitions onto scenic country roads that run parallel to the Grand Canal, offering tranquil views as runners head back to the village. The terrain is celebrated for being exceptionally flat and fast, consisting of smooth tarmac surfaces ideal for achieving a personal best. This professionally organized race concludes with a high-energy finish that captures the spirited hospitality and strong athletic tradition of the local area.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
